Happy Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus! Don’t you just love New Orleans because of all the festivals we have and all the celebrations? Well, you should love the Church too because we have even more days to celebrate and feast! This feast is celebrated 19 days after Pentecost and within the octave of the Feast of Corpus Christi and reminds us of the divine love Jesus Christ as for humanity. Wow, that is love that must be pondered and celebrated.
Do our celebrations in the Church restrict us to feast days only and give us a pass on the “non-feast” days? During the summer, since it is vacation time, do we only have to celebrate and go to Mass on those very rare summer feast days? No, it is just the opposite and that is one reason for vacation – a time to get away from, a time to relax and BE with God. What better way and place to just BE, then to BE with God by going to Mass, praying, and reading God’s Holy Word in the Scriptures!
Summer is a time where we generally have some extra minutes, so plan some time to spend with God and your family these summer days. Contrary to popular belief, school being out does not equate with God being out and on vacation! God is still here loving us and wanting to be with us.
So, I pray you have a safe, happy and holy summer and spend time with family and God. If you are away from your parish this summer on vacation go to
www.MassTimes.org to find a Church and Mass times near you.
Our Office of Religious Education will take a summer break from Faith Formation Fridays on Facebook and return to writing and blogging in August. However, we, like you, will keep God in our summer plans and will keep you in our prayers this summer and ask for your prayers as well.
Happy Summer and Happy Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus!
